Like us, our mission is sincere.

Kentucky Lumber is dedicated to educating, enabling and inspiring ordinary people to build extraordinary things – fulfilling our mission to Supply the Dreamers and the Doers. What does that mean for you? It means you can expect a lumber-buying experience with people, products and a place unlike any other. Your goals become our goals. We add your punch-list to ours. You can be sure we’re going to help you select the right lumber for your project. And in the end, we will have built your dream.

Being a family business, we are trying to teach our children to work with grit while loving and investing in others. This is the way we want to be treated. Your project is more than a sale to us. It’s a chance to instill necessary values in our children.

The Young and Ambitious History of Kentucky Lumber

Derek and Lisa started Kentucky Lumber in February of 2016. The lumber industry has taken off in recent years as more and more consumers move away from drywall and other man-made materials to the unique quality and character that once dominated the first 200 years of American home building – wood. Wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, consumers are choosing to bring back the beautiful grains, knots, and character that God put into these beautiful trees. They are choosing the natural beauty, strength and character of wood. And we are gladly supplying their needs.

Kentucky Lumber has been working together with the Guyer’s sister business, Kentucky Reclaimed, selling barn wood flooring, barn wood shiplap, live edge slabs, and rustic home decor. We have a bit of a passion for wood with character here, and can’t wait to share it with you.

Restoring More than an Old Factory

The home on our property was originally built in 1910. The family who owned it were the Coles. Annie Cole married William Pritz. Together they founded the Kentucky Woven Label Company in 1939 and built the other two buildings on our property in 1941.

The building that is now our store was once the administrative office building as well as the department responsible for the folding and cutting of labels after they'd been woven in the factory.

The Pritz Warehouse originally held the 14 looms that comprised their production. That building was built from stones quarried locally in Allensville, and carried through town on mule-drawn wagons.

The owners of Allensville Lumber bought this property in 2014 and restored the Pritz warehouse to store the lumber. They sold the business to us in February of 2016, and we renamed it Kentucky Lumber, LLC.

The office building restoration began in April 2018, and was mostly completed the following November when we launched the store and showroom.

Our office and showroom are rich with history, character, and creativity. We hope they represent importance of preservation, respect, and hard work. Those are some of the things we love about our customers and their projects.
